why is everything shown about the fremen a ritual? why does frank herbert drop the mystique he’s created around them so quickly? why is paul so easily accepted as leader of the fremen (and don’t tell me those offscreen protests and thu at one onscreen fight we’re real barriers. we both know they weren’t—and if they were, why were they off screen?)?

it’s interesting but it’s sorta not good.
like he just explained everything but there wasn’t really any build up to these revelations. all the politicking (“politicking”) doesn’t really matter anymore, either, so what even?? feels like i’ve only read the inciting incident, bc it seemed like a lot was going to happen in that part but then not much actually did happen before the harkonnens came etc
