I know them. I know them intimately, I have almost made a study of their faces, and am delighted when they are gay, and downcast when they are under a cloud. I have almost struck up a friendship with one old man whom I meet every blessed
day, at the same hour in Fontanka.

so far building up interest as sanderson usually does! but the language is sometimes really cringe inducing…like more than usual for sanderson. Especially the very forced in world building & made up words/names.

more similarities i think. robin encounters the real world in “prequel to the opium wars!” Which I felt like happened in the Poppy War with all the drug stuff going on idk.

why is it lowkey so similar plot wise to the poppy war #1 so far…I mean in a pretty superficial way…underdog studying at the most prestigious school around (study study study, I mean the emphasis on how much they study). With the school being, like, a sanitized microcosm of the whole world changing around them.

(my book is like 500 pages)

holy hell i don’t like the hermit of houston. probably cause i don’t like post apocalyptic(?) of that kind of vibe n style n whatever. but also jesus was it edited because there are so many mistakes which really don’t seem intentional

anyway I’ve read EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, EMERGENCY PROTOCOL, and WINTER TIMESHARE (and partway thru hermit houston). timeshare= my fav so far

almost done! i guess i thought the book would be more character driven. but it’s not. and it’s still good i think i was just looking for character driven books always - my previous thoughts still apply

nothing extraordinary has happened - just deles like a retelling of regular history without any real development of the plots actually by the author. also why is robespierre not there for a single riot, and it’s not a character thing its just bc

j finished part one. i do love the backdrop of enlightenment politics, but rn it’s got…I don’t know, i feel like it’s been spending this whole time setting the scene for the rest of the story, so i hope it delivers.
Also the magic system is kinda mid ok, maybe it gets more interesting we’ll see

pro: what the fuck is going on with achilles

con: the author is british and therefore the word “mummy” comes out of achilles’s mouth

this book’s very rambly but in this case, i like it. it really feels like you’re reading somebody’s real thoughts—though the downside is that there’s a lot of info dumping.

i think the characters are pretty well done, so far. or at least the ones we see are fleshed out. el especially.
