Thomas Edison believes that genius is a combination of a small idea and perspiration. "I first thought that running electricity through a filament would enhance the light, but it wasn't until I ran it through 200 substances until my vision was fulfilled." What he meant by this was he took a simple idea of containing fire in a bulb, ran tireless experiments with it, and then achieved something beyond his expectations.

Thomas Edison believes that opportunities are readily handed out, but the difference between those that benefit and those who don't are their willingness to put work into their goal."Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.(112)" Therefore as stated by Edison opportunity is always given but only a few benefit from it because they strive to take full advantage of it.

An inventor by the words of Edison is someone who will sacrifice everything, because those who do not sacrifice anything will not achieve anything. "An inventor is by definition anyone who would journey into a wilderness no one will dare venture alone. (75)" The life of an inventor is full of tribulations that if you only follow, you will not be worth those who would sacrifice everything to achieve a common purpose.
