I'm already torn about this book. At times it feels like Marias-lite, but I don't know if I am being influenced by the critical views I tried to avoid but didn't or if I feel like the narrative voice is not quite right. Like Mieville, though, Marias has nothing to prove; he has written several brilliant novels and doesn't have to knock it out of the park with this one.
