Love his section on non-violence.

Only part of the book I’ve disliked so far: his section on marriage. Seems to be in line with cultural understandings of roles while only skimming the surface of scripture’s meaning of marriage. I’d be very curious if Eberhard were alive today, where his theology of marriage would be.

Arnold’s continual harping on the need for unity, and even unanimity, in a Christian community is fascinating. Maybe I’m too pessimistic, but I cynically wonder if his calls for churches to “reach complete agreement about the objects of their prayer before they join in calling upon him” (78) is possible or should actually be what we aspire, pray for, and expect.
