I noticed that in 6/7 cases outta 10 my interest for a romance book (if it's not an absolutely unreadable dumpster fire) deflates considerably after a first sex scene 💀 idk if it's a me or a book problem anymore 🌚

Mtve41 I’m seeing only these scenes lately without any romance or holds up. A new book/writer everyday with zero depth. I hear you girl..!

Lori [semi-hiatus] I'm the same. I need a good slow burn and connection to keep me invested. Otherwise I dip. I DNF a few books every day because of that. These books that keep coming up are becoming all about the sex and no essence aside from that 😥

message 3: by ellie (new)

ellie NO THIS IS ME😭 after the first sex scene (maybe the second if it’s spicy) i skim that shit so hard. we do not care.

i think authors for sure compete with one another to see who can write the spiciest sex scenes with intense, brutal, smouldering heroes to get readers hooked... putting all their effort into the hero while the heroine and the plot get the crumbs left over🙃

Agree with this so much! 👏
The heroine is there for the hero to display his alphaness and that's it.
I think lately these books are catering too much to people who only want spicy stuff, and the rest is ignored.
Almost everyone can write a damn sex scene (is it really that hard?) but not everyone can do the rest 🤔

message 5: by juli✨ (new)

juli✨ exactly. it seems like all the tension is zapped out of the book after the first sex scene. like - i need more than that. i'm low-key here for the plot, like … i want to be invested in the romance.

message 6: by Sh (new)

Sh OMG SAME I thinks it’s cause the banter and angst kinda calm down so the plot line gets boring. I like a spicy book but not when they’re going at it like rabbits after a couple chapters 🌚

message 7: by ren ♡ (new)

ren ♡ you're not the only one... i think some authors equate sex to actual romance development and yeah sure it definitely plays a part in it BUT NOT THE WHOLE PART 😭😭😭

Kate ☕ (semi-hiatus) Yup, same same... 😶

message 9: by alka (new)

alka no clue what you're talking about

message 10: by alka (new)

alka ^kidding:)
yup can totally relate!! also, it's not a romance novel if we don't get a fight scene at sharp 86th% of the book

message 11: by Оля (hiatus) (new)

Оля (hiatus) *** I have the same thing) out of half of the books I have read, after the first sex it’s not so interesting and it would be faster to finish reading!
Just when you know that the epilogue will be good, you are already sure that after that there will be one water or a frivolous drama)

message 12: by PeaceOfGod (new)

PeaceOfGod I skim the book after first sex,if the book is less than 200 pgs.
I only continue after the first intimate scene, just to see what is the twist in the plot, and how many kids do the MCs have in the epilogue 😝

The reason why ive been reading more and more oldies these days 🤚🏻🤚🏻they might not have great sex scenes but at least they offer something more than just incessant banging 😭😂

@Lori, same problem. I dnf left and right which is killing me cos i have problem finding books w tropes i like already, and dnfing something that should have been up my alley by the looks of it? 😭

Take away all the sex scenes and what would be left of these books??👺 The fact that everyone, without a gift of creativity, can publish books rn is kinda sad. And the standards for romance genre are below the bottom

Same 😭 i want romance and not porno dressed up as romance!

Exactly!! It's kinda sad that the chemistry/tension dissipates so quickly. I can count on my fingers the books that didn't loose it or didn't rely on sex to deliver spice 🥺

⚔Irunía⚔ ren ♡ [semi-hiatus] wrote: "you're not the only one... i think some authors equate sex to actual romance development and yeah sure it definitely plays a part in it BUT NOT THE WHOLE PART 😭😭😭"

It's easier to write smut than provide banter, chemistry and relationship develop 🥺 why would they label erotica as romance tho? The standards are so low for this genre 😭

⚔Irunía⚔ Kate ☕ wrote: "Yup, same same... 😶"

Honestly i didn't realize so many ppl have the same issue 💀💀 i guess it's a book not me problem after all 😂

That's authors' attempt to reanimate their deadly boring books 💀😂

I think it shouldn't be this way though 🥺 recently i give all the books that lose my attention after sex 3 or 2 stars. If sex is the most exciting part of a book then it's a pile of shit for me 😂😂

Girl and you give these books 4-5 stars??? 😂 You're more tolerant and patient than me 🤚🏻

⚔Irunía⚔ @LittleBirdie, i understand. Sometimes i up the rating cos some authors tend to write things that i love (unhinged psychos for example and sweet hs 😂)

my favorite crazy heroes !!!! I just love them. I always read such books to the end !!! because the hero is interesting !!!! but it is very difficult to find a really dark SAFE book! I got so burned yesterday that I still can't come to my senses ((((I don't worry so much in my real life as because of books !!!!

You can try this book (if you haven't already) - Irish Kings; Cillian: The Leader - I'm reading it rn and I think it will be your cuppa 🔪🔪

richa ⋆.˚★ Omg same!!! I love the romance pre hook ups 😂 post hook up is another scenario to me 😩

Bhuvi (Thriving In The Blues) Why can I relate so much to this? Romance novels are just not hitting it for me these days and that makes me soooo sad 😭😭

⚔Irunía⚔ Richa wrote: "Omg same!!! I love the romance pre hook ups 😂 post hook up is another scenario to me 😩"

We're truly fucked if sex happens in the first few chapters 🥲

Spain without s. 😭 Takes me a long time to find something riveting in this genre nowadays and it sucks cos it's my fav

 ⚔Irunía⚔ Aly, 🥲🥲

message 35: by ⚔Irunía⚔ (last edited Nov 11, 2021 11:27AM) (new)

⚔Irunía⚔ Matilda, I can confirm that I read romance without any smut in it and it held my attention 🌚
Which is absolutely not true for most of my recent reads 🥲😂

message 36: by len ❀ (new)

len ❀ so relatable.
i’ve always been about emotional connection > physical so that’s why i struggle with insta lust. it really depends what happens after that can keep me going and enjoy the relationship.

message 37: by Yai (new)

Yai Min (semi i.a.) It's not you, it happens to me continuously, the books gets boring, too similar between them or just not engaging too 😂 I'm not going to give you advice because I haven't found a solution for it myself, last time it happened to me I took a 6 months break from reading because I hated everything 😔 now I try to change genres too, but I really don't know what to tell you... only that you are not alone and that it happens more than you think. ❤💗

⚔Irunía⚔ Elena, girl same 🤚🏻 occasional smut is fine, I don't expect emotional connection in Jessa Kane's books but I read romance for the feelings, not porn fantasies 🤡

⚔Irunía⚔ Yai, thank you girl!! Your message is so sweet 🥺 Honestly I'm not happy that so many people can relate. It's very disappointing that our fav genre fails us. I think it's a good strategy-changing genres-i do it myself (but it doesn't help 😂😂)

you probably need stress in the books? as I personally recently happened after one book. I now love romance so much, the last days, everything that I start, I finish to the end.

message 41: by Оля (hiatus) (last edited Nov 12, 2021 03:23AM) (new)

Оля (hiatus) *** I mean books in which heroes forever lose their other half (death), after such books you look differently even at sweet novels.
