"'...he's too good, he can't, he can't live, because...'"
Welcome to the world of Leo Tolstoy, guys, where attaining spiritual enlightenment is a death sentence.

It's about forgiveness. Tolstoy wants you to understand no one's really responsible for suffering, it just happens, so you can't lash out in response to it like the French Gov't does to the supposed arsonists, you have to accept it as inevitable like Princess Marya, and if you do that...well you'll still suffer but at least you won't add suffering to the world. You gotta love, dudes. Even when it hurts.

"'You can love a person dear to you with a human love, but an enemy can only be loved with divine love.'"
To give context on that quote would be to give spoilers so I shall refrain.
Meanwhile, Captain Ramballe is highly endearing. I doubt he'll ever come in again but I loved him while he was around. (With a divine love as well as a human one, let us hope.)

Leave it to Pierre Bezukhov to wander into the hottest part of the Borodino battlefield on one of the bloodiest days in human history and not even know he's in a significant spot :P
Meanwhile, Andrei.
Andrei knows all too well.

"Looking into Napoleon's eyes, Prince Andrei thought about the insignificance of grandeur, about the insignificance of life, the meaning of which no one could understand, and about the still greater insignificance of death, the meaning of which no one among the living could understand or explain."
Andrei, my child, I knew I loved you for some reason.
