This is a truly incredible book thus far. I hope the last half doesn't disappoint. The depth of emotional and psychological insight here is astounding - Bikker understands humans and the potential monsters within. My question: who is the monster, really? I honestly don't have the answer or even a real clue, which makes this all the more exhilarating to read!

I sense that this euphoric night of communal bliss is about to be upended. Maybe the real monster(s) will start to show. Or if the caravan's notion of "safety" holds, we may never know!

Who says folk horror can't have emotional impact? The emotional impact breeds the horror here and the horror carries more emotional impact. It's a labyrinthine chain reaction, deeper and deeper.

When you have to stop reading (end of lunch break) at a particularly intense place and you are literally shaking = me, now.

pain was time . . . if it were possible to exist between the ticks of a clock, there would be no such thing as suffering.

Already getting warning signs that things are going to go really, really badly, in time. Just one creepy guy is all it takes. And he's probably not the problem.
