This is a strange novel. It goes back and forth telling two stories in separate worlds. One in our world and set at the beginning of WWI and it involves a sort of "locked room" murder mystery. The other story is set in a fantasy land and the main character is a 12 year old girl, part of a travelling troupe of actors, who wanders around the town and meets weird people, one of whom tells a prophecy involving the girl.
