the afterword rlly helped point to the complexity of dune and the dedication frank herbert put in. without it, i’d have just seen it as a long ass piece of sci fi fantasy. what’s super interesting is the poetry included within the book itself, it’s approach to religion, and herbert’s creative process that often involved him starting his writing from poems! which is super cool

just finished book 1! i’m getting more into it but still so confused at exactly how large the dune series is (apparently massive) and whether or not i’m reading this “right”
