This isn’t great or even good so far. I’m a black woman and while I get some of the references it’s so hastily thrown together that it feels lacking in something — maybe authenticity?
The narrator keeps troublingly referencing another black character according to her smells — and not in a good way. Maybe it’s purposeful but this book does nothing to advance representation of black people positively.
