Hmmmm! I enjoyed the wrap-up speculation that the the North American plate shall fully over-run Juan de Fuca Ridge in a mere 10 million years. Oh! And that computer models show that perhaps the Atlantic Ocean may start subduction along the eastern seaboard of the North American plate in 50-100 million years. Oh! The places the plates will go! (p. 258)

I guess I never really thought of wheat, corn, or sugarcane as grasses before. But hey, learn something new every day (p. 185+)

Just trying to wrap my mind around the notion of 35,000 cubic miles of basalt lava oozing out of linear vents in eastern Oregon/southeastern Washington and some of it making it all the way to the coast 300 miles away (p. 141). And those sea stacks off the coast of Oregon? Yeah, like the world-famous Haystack Rock at Canon Beach (as seen in Goonies)? Remnants of basalt flow!!! (p. 135) Mind blown.

Kinda fun to read about the K-T boundary in this (p. 75 - 77) the day after watching Don't Look Up. They certainly reinforced the impact of the impact(s) between the written description and a delightfully Hollywoodian visual representation.

Before the North American plate popped off (my words, not the author's, lol) the supercontinent (Pangea) back in the day, there was no Oregon. Idaho! Idaho was the western edge of the continent before various island arcs were accreted (and other geological processes happened).

Ugh-oh! CSU whatnot really does want its book back soon. So consider me ready, willing, and (hopefully) able to plow through the paleozoic, mesozioc, and whatnot-oic eras of Oregon geography (geology?)...

The last thing I need is another non-fiction book on my currently reading shelf. But I wasn't kidding when I told Ant I was reeled into this by her review. Let's hope I can actually read it before CSU whatnot needs their copy back.
