I had the same reaction! I tend to dislike that type of device. But Nalini made it irk for me, since it’s not really insta-love. Hope you end up liking the book, too.

I'm not much into Ethan so far, his lack of emotion makes it hard to like him. I had no problem with previous Psy H/h, but there's something about him that bothers me. I can't put my finger on it yet, we shall see...
Well, a lot of the time we were reading of Psy whose Silence didn’t really take hold for one reason or another, or who were already doubting. Not the case here, and hard to pull off. So, I hope he redeems himself, but I can totally see why it could be “eh, maybe not”.
