i read thus book a dozen times in the last few years and i still giggle like a fool at every interaction maryann and nic dare to have in front of my giggly self

Maryann swore she felt the thunder of his heart, but he said nothing.“Did I frighten you?”she asked with a small smile.

He sounded intrigued,and her heart thrilled.
“That’s good,”she whispered teasingly,closing her eyes,and hoarding the sensations filling her chest close to her heart.“I do not fancy gentlemen who scare easily.”

“My thoughts are constantly occupied by you.” His voice grew softer still. “Is that what you wanted to hear?”
She was so thrilled by that admission, she almost hugged him. “A very disagreeable experience for you, I am sure.”
“You cannot be important to me."

“Always so bold,” he murmured, his eyes never leaving her face.
“Yes, and you should be prepared to acquaint yourself with it.”

A desperate flutter wormed its way through her heart. “You are dangerous.” This man was a threat to her virtue, her sensibilities, and her heart.
“Never to you,” he reassured, sounding earnest and bemused in the same breath. “Everyone else but you.”
