I think it’s all down hill from here… Napoleon retreats defeated, lots of people are dead.

Has anyone read the last chapter of Volume 12? I can’t think of another example of this in literature. Is it because War and Peace is so long and that it intends to reflect the arcs of real life? It is tragic and tragic in the classic sense that there was no wedding.
It is like reaching the last section of Pride and Prejudice and having Darcy killed.
