Hesse captures the transition from childhood to teen, and from innocence to melancholy perfectly. It is written like a memoirs but it is fantastically beautiful. Not in the sense of scenery no, i mean it is beautiful from a sense of feel. The way Sinclair goes from loneliness to meeting max demian, then to loneliness and alcoholism with company, then back to loneliness and falling for a girl he doesn't know.Beautiful

MAGNIFICENT! max demain is such a fantastically written character that you can't help but feel drawn to this little boy who has everything: looks, strength, intelligence and wisdom. And yet for a boy who has everything he doesn't seem unreal. Hermann Hesse has enchanted me with only a few chapters, as murakami did a few weeks ago.

Simply amazing. The symbolisms are genius the subject matter is fantastic the writing is top tier and the difference between a Hermann Hesse and a Gustave Flaubert shows so vividly. A book is like a painting and every word is like a brush stroke. A good writer creates an amazing painting but a writer of top tier quality can even amaze you with every brushtroke i know it's a weird analogy but if you know you know.
