For ~happy ending, try "Maurice" by Forster.

ending only, no happy huhu
Its easy to find lots of YA happy stuff, or even m/m happy. Tougher to find serious/realistic and happy. Two Boys Kissing and The Heart's Invisible Furies had realism, and I felt very good at the ending of these books.
finished it a few days ago and i'm still reeling. really enjoyed it! but with what's happening with the world, i can't help but want to read uplifting experiences, you know? thanks for the recs david!
