Looks like I was right, the house was all part of the traders plan.

Just wrapping up the book now and posting my final thoughts before kindle automatically marks it as read. I dont like how Nicky's memory is fading, it makes sense since she left it all behind, but really it just drills in the fact that the monster won.
The books premise was interesting but unfortunately I feel its execution was week and the characters too unlikable.
I'm just glad the pacing sped up at the end!

Not sure how I feel about the letter format "epilogue ".
At least its pretty clear the story isnt over... they moved the tree but the evil remains.

The basement being scary paragraph.. I'm pretty sure the same paragraph was included earlier. Minor editing mistake or deliberate choice?
I'm definitely wondering if there is something special about the house itself.

They found some teeth and bones. Seems like a bit of a coincidence.
I also find it interesting one if the people is called Fish.
And the trader has at least one open trade... the family members return.
This battle is definitely not over yet!

I think the only likeable character is Nicky... She seems to be a very strong person.
And the amount of control the trader has is surprising. I can understand impacting memory, but he is influencing behavior too.
This also explains why the tree kept coming back even when people cut it down.

The possibility that the trader has been isolating the family the entire time is intriguing. I definitely want to know what his end game is...

Its interesting reading a book where the villain prevents you from remembering clearly.
I'm baffled how the parents didnt survive but Jim did... the only explanation is his debt is now paid in full.
I really dont like the time jumps and I find it hard to care about the characters.

Haven't had much time to read lately. The attack on the trader was great but I doubt it will pay off... we aren't even halfway into the book yet.

I really like the details around the traders. Theres a lot of good content in this story. My only issue is that some parts could be better presented.

I'm not sure how I feel about the time jumps or telling the story a year at a time.
