I don't understand why Brocc cares so deeply for the crowfolk. They've nothing to redeem themselves.

God. These characters are infuriating sometimes. They talk and think and talk and think some more. They're in a dangerous situation. Talk and think when you're well away from that danger. And they're so quick to defeatist thinking. Liobhan is maimed. That's evidence enough. Good grief. This has been a frustrating read.

Eirne is awful. I'm not sure why Brocc loves her so much.

I love the sequel so far. Dau and Liobhan's relationship is so sweet and natural. They feel like real people. Marillier is so talented in the way she builds trust and friendship between her characters, so it doesn't feel forced. Not much has happened story-wise, but I have a bad feeling the bride visiting Dau's birthplace his for him, not his brother. But we'll see!

Dau's first meeting with his brother after many years should have been written from his pov, not Liobhan's. In true Marillier fashion, her characters suffer because they frustratingly keep everything to themselves!
