The predecessor to Dostoevsky and Kafka, Gogol is an amazing comedian believe it or not. The diary of a madman feels...well like you're reading the diary of a madman there is not false advertising here. The story of a crazed self labeled gentleman who falls in love with his boss's daughter is tragic, satirical and engaging. So far I highly recommend it

Wow what a great display of writing ability. Hats off to Gogol on this one it's a very good story. I have bought this collection of Gogol stories in one book but I'll be rating them and treating them as different books because unlike murakamis first person singular or hedayats buried alive, this is not a collection of stories but it's some collected stories written by Gogol. Unrelated to each other. This gets a 7/10
