Trying FW again, reading a page/day with the #JoyceEveryDay Twitter reading group. It’s slow going, often puzzling and obscure, but also very funny as Joyce uses puns and wordplay to reinvent cliched language.

The FW reading group is reading at a rate of a page per week, which turns out to be a good speed for me ;). Joyce frequently does short sections where he riffs on a particular subject — biblical references, heraldry, 1001 Nights. Reading it aloud more than once really helps my understanding, just as it does with poetry. And it is very fun with all the verbal music.
