"While a college student is reading Adam Smith...he runs his father in debt irretrievable" We are critiquing it a lot in class but oh boy is it so rich. Heres another one: "The things which the student most wants...the far more valuable education...is by associating with the most cultivated of contemporaries." So true! We are REALLY paying for connections here not the tuition. 1840's critique still applicable.

Khetsia Interesting take. As a non-liberal arts college student and as a Quebec student whose tuition is relatively cheap (~5k a year including healthcare), I find that my university education has only ensured I can pay my bills! During my 3 years at McGill, I have been lucky to have many amazing teachers but no that experience you speak of. On another note I would argue that the most insightful/cultivated of our contemporaries are probably much more busy waiting to see a psychologist or simply trying to numb themselves with mind-altering substances to make some sort of difference…
