I don’t like stupid characters. Why didn’t Tennessee tell the sheriff that her sisters were in danger? He was obviously sympathetic to her. He could have sent a telegram to have law enforcement go see to the girl’s safety a lot faster than she could get there by train AFTER spending the night winning enough to get there. Or tell James ‘I will marry you if you save my sisters’? She is dumb.
