I like the way Wu Zhao/Wu Zetian isn't made a feminist icon in this -- cruel emperor that she was; instead we have an 'eccentric nun', half fox-spirit, and her anti-murder acolyte, for heroes.
Not that I haven't enjoyed Wu Zetian fiction.
