Anna Katsu has brought to life in this historical fiction/horror novel a story during the 10th century we all know, but it was not well taught given the gruesomeness of cannibalism.
The ominous tone is in every paragraph, and this caravan of carriages has many voices, some good, some bad, and some in conflict. This is hard to put down especially as Katsu’s historical attention to detail is superb.
