Mustafa continues to tell his journey of getting educated. he states that the man that helped him start his path in education, could help him no further because the staff was limited in education. He saw Mustafa's potential and asked him if he would like to Cairo to continue his path. Mustafa agrees to go to Cairo to progress with his education.

Mustafa tells his childhood story. He states how these men from foreign land came to their little town, and asked him if he wanted to go to school. He said yes, and this was the very beginning of his educative path. He says that his relationship with his mother is bad, simply because she formed an unknown resentment. It was clear to him; however, she would never admit the fact.

Mustafa and the narrator are invited to drink. Majoub is pressuring Mustafa to drink. This makes the narrator slowly realize how everyone was giving false opinions on Mustafa, because he is a more educated man.

The narrator explains why he went overseas. He states that he always had a sense of adventure, and that's why he study overseas. He says however, he was terribly afraid that his grandfather was going to die in his absence, and this was one of the main reasons why he didn't want to travel.

The narrator comes back to his home country (somewhere in North Africa) from his study abroad in Europe. He sees his father praying and a new man in the house. His father tells him that, that is Mustafa; although, he was not a local he was working on the farm, so his father let him move in. They then ask the narrator about Europe.
