Listened to Pauline’s story. There are so many parallel’s to Pecola’s, and while it was an obvious literary choice, it works. There is colorism, abuse, and reckoning with the ideal world versus imagined escape to a (both times problematic) ideal.

Fitting SO NICELY with my environmental justice class. First chapter brilliantly shows the fear and well of emotions at being outdoors. This really compliments “Black Faces White Spaces” and all I’ve learned from black environmentalists recently.
