The abuse and neglect of his foster home childhood is pretty gruesome. By the time he runs away as a teenager, it's a relentless horrorshow of drugs and violence. I'm a third of the way through the book, and he hasn't even met Harley Flannigan yet. The part where John Joseph gets beat up for stealing Johnny Thunders' beer was amusing.
