I think we're supposed to read this as being fatal, but like, the Ashnon's body got eaten before, so I don't see why a stab wound doesn't just revert it back to its real not-actually-a-form.

But Achilles IS a fighter. And there should probably be a comma after "No."

It's weird enough how often Feasey uses Burly Detective Syndrome in dialogue, but it's especially weird for one demon to call another "the nether-creature." It's like if one normal human called another "the earthling."

How does Shentob know the word "supercilious" when he doesn't even understand pronouns?

HAS Trey really changed since his experience doing nothing worthwhile in the last book? I guess I'll have to take Feasey's word for it.

For that matter, I don't really see much romantic tension between him and Alexa, except that the characters keep telling us about it.

In situations like this, you'd think it would occur to them that hey, maybe Molok wouldn't be acting this way unless this seemingly-weak opponent was actually stronger than he looks.

Honestly, Helde might be a better villain than Caliban. She has a sense of humor. That's one whole character trait other than "evil."

Alexa WAS stupid to do this, but Trey, after the last book you don't have much room to criticize anybody.

Book: "...a demon the likes of which Alexa had never laid eyes on before."

Ooh. Feasey is actually really good at coming up with creative, creepy monster designs, so I wonder what this'll be.
