A significant moment in The Gathering Storm was when Rand, the main character, climbed the Dragonmount and destroyed the most powerful weapon that he had. This moment was a turning point for Rand as a character. He realized that becoming hard and cold would only make it easier for the Dark One to defeat him, and that he to embrace the human inside of him to defeat his inner evils and also the evils of the Dark One.
