Read the section on magic systems, which I bought the book for, and it was helpful. Still muttering under my breath about the formatting problems though....

I said it before, don't buy the paperback version. This has to be the absolute worst formatted paperback I've ever encountered and that it is in a writing craft book is utterly crazy-making.
There's some good information here, but not for new writers. If I'd read this 20 books ago I'd have gotten so trapped in analysis paralysis that I'd never have written anything. Save this one until you've mastered basics.

Once you get past the awful paperback formatting, there is some useful advice here. It is definitely not for the beginning writer though, which is what I was hoping for when I got it. So that is a positive.

I regret buying the paper back of this one. The formatting is so bad I can barely get through it. Margins run to the edge of the page so the eye doesn't stop. Page numbers at the top with no running heads make this non-fiction very difficult to flip through for reference. Headings on the bottom line of a page with nothing else after it. Huge bottom margins. Simply a horrible reading experience, even if info is ok.
