This starts in April and is set on the sea in Devon. I am reading it in April on the Oregon Coast! I love when reading and life line up like that.

“On this particular evening Jessamine had already lighted the candles, but the door was still wide open showing the lovely evening sky with its shimmering star. It had deepened now to a royal blue, queen’s blue, the blue of the Madonna’s cloak, very deep in the east where night was walking towards them over the sea…” (41).

“No one knew what kind of a dog Sausage was. He was a small bustling creature with a round furry brown body set on inadequate legs…He suffered from a constant fear of being overlooked because he was so small…It was not possible to say of him, as people said of Spot, that he was a gentleman, because as a matter of fact he wasn’t, but he had a very great deal of common sense” (32).
