ok finally getting to where stratigraphy is an accepted science
History converges as this is also around the time Darwin publishes Origin of the Species

Archeology vs philology - quite a separation, bur archeology still does not mean what it does today

Discovery of strata layers and getting the scientific world to realise humans are older than the bible

All this way through and finally the word archaeology has been invented

So much to consider. This book is dry at times but still so interesting to see how religious biased views change how we perceive things. Our way of thinking of the past has changed so much and we take it for granted to have always felt that way

Introduction of the authors of history in history - from Herodotus up to the Chinese so far - a little on the dry side but interesting and food for thought that archaeology started much earlier than first thought

Just finished the introduction - all about how archaeology differs from collectors. Not something I really thought about before
