Song of Shadows by Sylvia Mercedes is a mild prequel to her Venatrix Chronicles which starts in Basina when Hollis di Theldry is three and quickly moves ahead to when she is twenty at Castra Iarcand, with a culminating return to Iarcand when she is twenty. I read it in a long afternoon as part of Fierce Hearts: A 2022 Charity Anthology of Romantic Fantasy & Fantasy Romance For Ukraine.
