Some of the lore around vampires differs from typical (spoilers ahead); it should have perhaps been established earlier that vampires are born as vampires, and usually humans can't turn into them. We're only just being told this in volume 5. The reveal that red hair allegedly indicates the rare case of a human-turned-vampire, hence Bloody/Mary being one of these rare cases, is a neat reveal though.

I think that reveal about Bloody/Mary would have had more impact if we spent the first five volumes with the knowledge that vampires are born as vampires and are essentially a separate species to humans though.
