First time I've cracked a book in many weeks. Chapter 2 presents a lush rococo description of a lush rococo room, and of a woman applying makeup, before the entrance of her bestie and a segment of playful dialogue between the two women hiding momentarily from the gala downstairs.

Still just really gob-smacked by this, fantasizing about what a gorgeous play or film it could be. Eager to see where it goes. If this continues to be so attractive, I may have to check out her other books.

Back to continue and finish this one. Decided not to return to start over because the delightfully rococo language is a lot of work, so not remembering what happened in the first couple chapters except Anne and Anna conversing in a rococo white bedroom about not sure what and it's a New Year's Eve masquerade during the 20th century
