I'm enjoying this collection so much. It's full of action and emotion, but somehow still has a cozy, soothing vibe to it. Maybe it's just because I love anything nautical.

I'm about halfway through The Duel. One more story after this one and I'll have officially finished this behemoth!

I just finished the short story 'Il Conde.' It was an interesting read, definitely much lighter than the other stories in this collection so far

I finished my second read of the Narcissus story. I think I made a good faith effort to see the merits in that story. It does have some! But the ugly racism ruins it. I'm not giving Conrad a pass and I am judging the story from a modern perspective. When classics hold up to a modern perspective, that's what makes them classics. It's silly to pretend we don't see problems with a story

Trying once again to make sense of Conrad's gamer word story. It has SUCH an unfortunate title. I don't understand the racial slur in the title or the focus on race. James Wait is a great villain, but like...what does him being black have to do with anything? Donkin is white and almost as obnoxious as James. Does anybody know what it up with all the racial slurs and why Conrad went that way?
