The brass-tacks truth is that we're all salespeople. Sales go on around us all the time- in both financial & non-financial situations. Humans like to be treated humanely. And no one likes to be run roughshod over. Better to win the day with softer tactics, or not at all. People love to buy but hate to be sold. It's a hard & fast truth.

Know what you need in skills & expertise, but don't be afraid to trust intuition. Ability can be acquired, but a sour work environment is tough to fix. Education does not equal character. Your example counts. Like attracts like. If your attitude stinks, don't be surprised if your employees' do too.

Word of mouth is among the most powerful ways to secure customers. Customers will tell you what they want, & how to sell it, if you listen. Unhappy customers talk faster & louder than happy ones.

Amish call school age children "scholars." Eight grades and out education program, many Amish sympathize with a common sentiment- that the theorems & case studies of the hallowed halls come up short against hands-on know-how acquired in the real world arena.

"Be hungry" The second generation lets it stagnant, And in the third, "it goes down the toilet." Drive above all else getting fat & happy means "you lost it, it's going downhill." Support from the outside is a luxury, not a given. Challenges & trails are not necessarily negative. Sometimes we need to hard times to get better at what we do.

Vision, by its very nature, motivates. Creating a vision encourages imagining how life could be different for you as well as for others whom your business can possibly influence. Amish average around 7 children per married couple. Expanding population has left Amish less able to acquire the 80-100 acre farms they've historically based their lives around. Small business have become an attractive option.
