There's philosophical writing advice and then there's just over-blown, feels over everything else writing advice. This is the latter. He seems to want writers to both believe there is no bad writing and also that there is always improvement to be made in their writing. You can't have it both ways, unfortunately. It comes across as annoying and the contradictions are grating.

I've had to jump around a bunch to get through this so I only have a few chapters left, they're just all over the place.

I just got through the chapter on critique and I feel like the author never really got over dealing with people critiquing his work. He really had to backtrack bc he previously said there is no good or bad writing, but if that's true then there is absolutely no reason to ever workshop.
There are a few good bits of advice in this book but overall I'm more annoyed by it than anything else.

So much of this has been very repetitive. I know that it's sort of train of thought in a way and it's more philosophical than prescriptive, but it's like I can read the first and last sentences of paragraphs and totally understand the idea of it because everything in between is the same thought said four different ways.
