Just started reading this collection. After finishing Conrad's 'Tales of Land and Sea' I guess I'm still in the mood for nautical stories. Looking over the table of contents, I have read a few of these stories, but most I haven't. I've read The Brute by Conrad (very recently actually) and I've already read The Upper Berth, but don't mind rereading. That was a creepy nautical ghost story.

Alright, 'The Sea Thing'! Wow, I really loved this short story by A.E van Vogt. The story is third omniscient, but it's deep POV and the bulk of the story is in the Shark God's POV. The only part I'd have changed is the ending. The Shark God is the protagonist and his quest for vengeance is absolutely justified. They're killing his people!

Okay, I just finished 'Second Night Out' by Frank Belknap Long and all I can say is WOOOW. While the other stories in this collection are creepy/eerie, Long's story is the first one that is legitimately terrifying. The descriptions of the 'black, dead thing' that come on-board the second night of the voyage every trip, how it moves like an eel....how the protagonist feels something has pressed onto his brain...wow

I just finished 'Bells of Oceana' by Arthur J. Burk. It was very creepy and I liked that mermaids were made into terrifying monsters, rather than the cute disney version we're so used to.

I just finished The Ship of Silent Men by Philip M. Fisher. I'm guessing this must be a more obscure story, bc it doesn't even come up when I search it on goodreads. The story was incredibly eerie, especially the visual of the sailor automotons continuing in their nightmarish motions on the bottom of the sea.
