Finally got some clues from the author at 60%. But still a lot of the protagonists running around, being a couple of steps behind the antagonists.

Except for a ghost instructing a serial killer (a plot line whose bearing to the main plot is still hidden), the fantasy elements from book one are completely absent to this point. Reads more like a political thriller set on an alternate Earth circa 1700, tricorne hats included.
