I've seen the first season of the tv show twice now and it follows the book pretty closely. That said things started to drag a bit once I got to the witch trials section. There are some differences, but I just wasn't a fan of this section in the show, except for that one revelation at the end. I do really like the section after the witch trails (I say no more!).
