We offshoot into newer creatures, hybrids and monsters, as the plot progresses into a (illusionary?) whirlpool.
Positives : clichéd ship encounter but with an aguara
Negatives: clichéd protagonist falling for the antagonist's silly little trickery, a couple of times. While manhandling lesser foes, nonetheless.
There's still some meat left in the book to explore..
