Kashrut: Pork - possibly disallowed because they were popular in Greek and Roman culture and eating it would have signified an abandonment of Judaism for pagan culture
Separation of milk/meat: possibly to distinguish from pagan worship of the dead. Also considered a perversion of the purpose if the milk (life sustaining) by mixing with meat (death).

Finishing Bal Tash’hit (Preserving the Earth) chapter. Some bits a little dated (e.g. what lightbulb types to use), but otherwise a lot of good tips.
Enjoying the book, but very much wishing it had a modern revision with current statistics, links, addresses for things, etc.

This book seems pretty dated so far. It presumes belief in God is necessary for morality. It uses an example of needing God to tell him raping his sister is wrong, otherwise his belief that it is wrong is just opinion. He apparently missed out on the story of Lot offering up his daughters to be gang raped by the town and those daughters later raping him while he’s asleep. The Bible alone is shite at morality.
