Oof!
During the last five minutes of the rummage sale, you could buy four books for a loonie, and I did. I saw this - a fifth - and the church lady said, "Take it. Just... take it."
I think it may have been hers. Nonetheless - a free copy, summertime 2022, gimlets - it could be entertaining. It had better be entertaining.

This is tough slogging through a heavy section of name-dropping. Perhaps the point of name-dropping with such relentlessness is to underscore, ultimately, its futility.

There's a bit about the practice of oiling emeralds that elicited some interest and then a leap to the computer to buy designer costume jewelry.

Amanda Duffy The second half of the book is devoted to a steadfast insistence of innocence, a wholly sincere belief in it, and the fallout that comes from high-societal betrayal.

"Do we want the Blacks to return to Canada?" "No, we don't. Tear them to pieces."

Inexplicably, I get it. It's not entertainment of "the peanut-crunching crowd" variety, but there are enough bon mots and descriptives of self-immolation to keep things interesting.

Almost done. I don't think there's a hint of disingenuity here.
