I was just getting into it when it got to the Negev section... Two questions arose. 1.Has the author considered why so many species (including turtles) are critically endangered in this region? (It's not because of bomb defusing martyrdom but rather the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements into the natural landscape.) 2.Why is this chapter so brutally and jarringly unbalanced?

Alexandra I learned about the state of the turtles native to the region while visiting the natural history museum in Bethlehem and all I can say is, if indeed there are immortal turtle spirits out there, I hope they can dispense some more nuanced perspectives on violence and sacrifice than whatever one featured in this chapter...
