This was weird and upsetting with the illustrations of the animals being abused. Not explicitly so but clear. No citations or further reading or any backmatter except a thank you to the organization Trang is part of. Weird trim size and weird artwork.

Chang’s age is never really clear in the story. Is she an adult? Teen? Is she doing all this for months on end with Sorya as a volunteer? The book ends with her saying “I’ll be the best conservationist in the world” so maybe. But also that makes no sense?
