I just had to say to the critter, Listen, critter, I'm gonna take over your body for a bit, and I promise I'll give it back to you unharmed. Sure, it might be a little scary, but it's for a good cause.

Brilliant writing. Brilliant storytelling. I will attempt a coherent review once I stop sniffling.

... never get to know the people you possess. Someone should write that in a handbook for the deceased.

"We're spirits," he said to me with a bit of miff in his voice. "Ghosts are those gray things without color. Echoes of the past without any minds at all. But, yes. Of course we have schedules. Just because we don't know time anymore, don't mean we haven't got the inkling to map out the rest of eternity."

... from what I understand, from what been passed to me, when Death comes to us, he greets us disguised as the last person we knew and loved who has died, I suppose for comfort's sake, if you can get past the whole dyin' thing."

"You see, when we die, every one of us become a spirit. Ghosts. Haunts. Whatever you wanna call it. We shed our bodies, and we just float alongside the elementals. We stay spirits until we bleed out all of our memories from this life. It can be a strong process, sure. Some folk have stronger attachments and memories than others. Some folk have deeper hurts and more egregious anger, so they stick around.."

It's funny how drops of rain on leaves sounds like commiseration. I just noticed that right now. For the first time, maybe ever, I feel comforted by these woods. Everything looks the same, but there's a voice to the trees now. This walk is calming me, doing me good, and I slow down. I don't want it to end so quickly. I just want to think--or not think--and hear the trees.

Like young Luc and his angel.
