This is so sad but in an uplifting way. I'm actually enjoying the way it's written with a US Southern accent. It's not normally something I like, as in language slaughtering, not the US southern accent!!
There are very, very few authors who can do this and get away with it.

still think the pacing is off and that we're not being given enough time to really form a good enough relationship to these side characters. bad things happen and I feel bad for them as I would anyone else, but it's not a personal kind of grief. I'm really liking the sort of modern fantasy vibe I'm getting here though, that's definitely keeping me interested.

sooooo, I don't understand why every other break the text becomes italics? and while I'm sure Trent is very sweet, we haven't had enough time to know him to actually give half a damn about whether he's ok or not..... But it's solidly written, so imma stick with it

He looks at me like he’s gonna slap me upside the head. Jimmy does it for him from behind. “What was that for?” I say. “I apologize,” says Jimmy. “I thought I saw some delusions in your hair.”

Halfway through this incredible book. Quite possibly the best thing I've read this year.

Brilliant writing. Brilliant storytelling. I will attempt a coherent review once I stop sniffling.

... never get to know the people you possess. Someone should write that in a handbook for the deceased.

I just had to say to the critter, Listen, critter, I'm gonna take over your body for a bit, and I promise I'll give it back to you unharmed. Sure, it might be a little scary, but it's for a good cause.

"We're spirits," he said to me with a bit of miff in his voice. "Ghosts are those gray things without color. Echoes of the past without any minds at all. But, yes. Of course we have schedules. Just because we don't know time anymore, don't mean we haven't got the inkling to map out the rest of eternity."
