I think I see where this one was going but for me it didn’t hit the mark. Everything felt heavy handed. I did not like that a lot of the fighting we see between Margot and Kyra basically boils down to body shaming with Kyra calling Margot “tiny titties” several times. The artwork is nice and the magical elements were fun but never gelled into anything except an incredibly heavy handed metaphor for puberty.

I know I say things are lame but I don’t think books are supposed to anymore.

Period framed as body getting ready to have a baby. Which is biologically true but feels … not right way to explain it in a way I’m having trouble articulating.

Margot is 12 almost 13 in the summer before starting high school. Does that math even track?
